Descaling a Vertical Garment Steamer

Verticale Kledingstomer Ontkalken - STEAMRS

Descaling your Professional & MIDI Garment Steamer

When water is converted into steam, calcium and magnesium residues remain in the boiler. Over time, these residues form a layer that can reduce the performance of your garment steamer - or, in the worst case, even damage it beyond repair. That is why it is important to descale your steamer regularly. We recommend doing this approximately every 20 uses. Below, you can read how to do this easily.

Follow the steps below to keep your garment steamer clean and limescale-free.

Step 1. Preparation

To properly descale the garment steamer, start with the following steps:

  • Turn off the garment steamer and let it cool down completely.
  • Then remove the water tank, steam pole, and steam hose from the steamer, leaving only the steam cabinet.

Now we will prepare the descaling agent. See Step 2.

Step 2. Make descaling solution

Vinegar dissolves calcium and magnesium. By mixing vinegar with hot water in the boiler, you can remove these deposits from your steamer.

  • Pour 50 milliliters of white distilled vinegar and 100 to 200 milliliters of hot water into the cavity beneath the water reservoir.
  • Gently tilt the steamer back and forth. You will see brown pieces of calcium and magnesium come loose as you tilt it and float in the water.

Step 3. Descaling

Drain this water, which contains the calcium and magnesium, from the steamer through the special drain screw next to the on/off button (on the Professional Steamers). For the MIDI steamer, tilt the appliance and drain the water through the opening where the hose is normally attached.

Repeat this procedure a few times until the water coming out of the steamer is clean again and no more brown particles are visible.
