Wash less and steam more!
It is recommended to wash as little as possible
Sustainable fashion designer Stella McCartney said in an interview with 'the Observer' that she never washes or dry-cleans her suits, and even added that you should wash as little as possible. We so often throw our clothes into the laundry basket at the end of the day, even though they are not actually dirty at all. Unfortunately, not exactly a sustainable habit... And it is also very time-consuming to deal with several loads of laundry and a full ironing basket afterwards.
Research shows that frequent washing shortens the lifespan of your textile products. This is all related to soap, heat, tumbling in the drum and contact with other clothes. The fibres of fabrics are damaged, and fabrics become thinner and start to pill, colours fade and clothes lose their shape.
But why do we all think this is necessary? The answer is simple: clever marketing by detergent manufacturers. Mac Bishop, the founder of a clothing brand whose clothes hardly need washing, experienced this when he worked on Unilever's marketing team: “The only way to grow a detergent brand is to make people think they need to wash a lot.”
Frequent ironing is also very bad for your textile products. Fibres are effectively flattened, and combined with the extremely hot soleplate, this causes faster wear. You give your favourite fabrics the long life they deserve by taking good care of them. Washing and ironing as little as possible prevents wear and colour fading. Enjoy your finest clothes, bed linen, tablecloths, decorative cushions, etc. for even longer.
Use a handheld steamer
We stopped doing unnecessary laundry and wasting time on unnecessary ironing tasks a long time ago. The STEAM'R is the ultimate invention for us. The specially designed pattern on the STEAM'R's metal plate, combined with the warm steam, ensures that the textile fibres are 'lifted' rather than damaged. This process is comparable to the natural drying process in the (outdoor) air. As you can imagine, this is much gentler on the fibres of delicate fabrics than, for example, using a hot, flattening iron. Using a handheld steamer is also incredibly fast! Trust us, it really is the perfect solution for your busy life, allowing you to look well-groomed, fresh and crease-free in next to no time!
